Firhad Hakim Political Career
Hakim began his political journey during his teens as a student activist back in 1977. Hakim enrolled himself into the Chatra Parishad of the Indian National Congress. In 1998 Hakim joined T.M.C Trinamool Congress and that was the starting period for T.M.C. TMC was founded by Smt Mamata Banerjee. Firhad Hakim is an active TMC politician.
In 2000 Firhad Hakim became councilor of Ward 82 in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. On 11 November 2009, Hakim was elected to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from the Alipore constituency. In the 2011 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election, Hakim won from the Kolkata Port constituency as a candidate of the All India Trinamool Congress. He received 63,866 votes and defeated his nearest rival Moinuddin Shams of the All India Forward Bloc by a margin of 25,033 votes. When Mamata Banerjee made his first minister cabinet he became the minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs (2011 to 2015).
In 2016 Firhad Hakim got elected in West Bengal Legislative Assembly election. And again became the minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs. In 2018 Firahd hakim Nominated his name as a candidate for the Kolkata mayor election. He got 121 votes and became the mayor of Kolkata.
In 2021 Firhad hakim again got elected from the same constituency. One more time he became the minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs.
Firhad Hakim controversis
- In 2016 Firhad Hakim was arrested by CBI for The case of the Narada string operation. A video came up as proof. Firhad hakim and some Tmc big leader seen in the video.
- On 17 May 2021, he along with the senior minister, Subrata Mukherjee, MLA, and former minister Madan Mitra and former Mayor of Kolkata Sovan Chatterjee has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation from their house in connection with the Narada sting operation.
